Around the world in 50 days

for peace and a world free from nuclear weapons

Tore Nærland and Erik Berge

Front cover: the title above a group photo of students in a lecture hall and a photo of four people in front of a peace exhibition.Back cover: a group photo of students, two people on a tandem by a lake, and the back cover text.

In the autumn of 2026, Bike for Peace travelled around the world. In 50 days, Tore Nærland, Erik Berge and Josy Kang visited ten cities on four continents: Helsinki, New Delhi, Kuala Lumpur, Bali, Brisbane, Suva, Honolulu, Phoenix, Mexico City and Oklahoma City.

They lectured to students, met associations of the blind, churches and parliamentarians, and rode tandems with blind and sighted riders. Everywhere they gathered signatures for an appeal to world leaders for dialogue and a world without nuclear weapons by 2045, a hundred years after Hiroshima and Nagasaki.

The book follows the journey from city to city in 50 chapters, in the words spoken along the way: the questions the students asked and the answers they were given, the conversations in parliaments, and the meetings with people working for peace in their own countries.

It all began in 1976, when Tore Nærland took the back seat of a tandem. Since then, Bike for Peace has cycled for peace in more than 125 countries. This book shows what that work looks like today.
