The 2045 Appeal

Sign for a nuclear-weapon-free world by 2045

Nine countries hold nuclear weapons. One miscalculation is enough. We are visiting all nine in 2026 and 2027, carrying the names of people who believe the world can do without them by 2045. Add yours, and we will write to you from the capitals where the decisions are made.

An Appeal for Peace, 2026

This is the appeal we deliver at the United Nations Headquarters in New York in October 2026, carrying the names of everyone who has signed.

To the United Nations and the leaders of the world,

We sign this appeal in the tradition of Leo Tolstoy, Mahatma Gandhi, and Martin Luther King Jr., and in solidarity with the survivors of nuclear weapons in Hiroshima, Nagasaki, Semipalatinsk, Nevada, and the Marshall Islands, whose testimonies remind us that nuclear weapons are a humanitarian catastrophe the world must move past.

We, the undersigned, appeal to you:

  • For lasting peace in Europe, between Ukraine, Russia, and the European community.
  • For a renewed diplomatic focus to ensure peace in the Middle East by de-escalating tensions between Israel, Iran, and the USA.
  • For urgent efforts to secure peace and stability in Sudan.
  • For a world free from nuclear weapons: we appeal to all nuclear powers to disarm as soon as possible, and by 2045 at the latest.

The world needs active peace work now. Dialogue is the only way out of locked conflicts.

This appeal is dedicated to the United Nations, Mayors for Peace, the victims of nuclear testing and war, OPANAL, and Lions International.
