Round-the-World and the UN appeal

Twelve cities in 61 days, from Helsinki to New York, where we hand over the appeal for a world without nuclear weapons by 2045.

This is the main journey of Bike for Peace's fiftieth anniversary. We leave Stavanger on 1 September and return on 31 October. Along the way we meet peace organisations, universities, local communities and public authorities in twelve cities across four continents.

The method is the same as it has been for fifty years. We arrive with the bicycle as our tool and conversation as our means, and we talk to all sides. The tandem is the image we use: two people from opposite sides of a border have to pedal in time and trust each other to get anywhere.

Along the way we are hosted by local peace organisations, Buddhist peace communities and veterans' peace groups. In Fiji the Pacific Conference of Churches is our host.

The journey ends in New York in late October. There we will hand the peace appeal to the UN system, carrying the names of everyone who has signed it.

What taking part means

  • You can follow the journey from home and receive updates from the cities we visit.
  • You can meet us when we are nearby, at an event or a local ride.
  • You can join for a single leg, if it suits you and us. We take that conversation with each person individually.

Want to know more?

Leave your name and email and we will keep you informed about this journey. There is no registration and no obligation, and you are not committing to anything.

Which parts would you like to hear about?

Tick the cities that are relevant for you. Partial legs are arranged individually, since the flights are a single combined ticket and taking part in only a section means a separate booking.
